The Greatest Commandments and Jesus’ Teachings - Part 2 of 2
Summary
Part 2 of “The Greatest Commandments and Jesus’ Teachings” with Shaun Calix at Oak Hollow Church of Christ. Jesus shows us what it looks like to love our neighbor through selfless, fearless, merciful, humble, and sacrificial love. Small-group Scripture discussions and powerful whole-group insights.
Description
In this second half of the series, Shaun Calix continues unpacking the Greatest Commandments at Oak Hollow Church of Christ (recorded April 12, 2026). After reviewing how Jesus taught us to love God, the class dives deep into what it means to truly “love your neighbor as yourself.”
Participants break into small groups to study four key passages, then reconvene to examine two more powerful teachings from Jesus. Through lively discussion they discover practical, challenging qualities of neighbor-love: turning the other cheek, radical forgiveness, mercy to the hurting (even when it’s uncomfortable), humility that elevates others, serving “the least of these,” and laying down our own interests for the sake of love.
Passages covered:
• Luke 6:27–36 & 12:32–34 – Love your enemies; fearless generosity
• Matthew 18:21–35 – The unforgiving servant and limitless forgiveness
• Luke 10:25–37 – The Good Samaritan: love even when it’s inconvenient
• Luke 14:7–11 – Humility at the table
• Matthew 25:31–46 – Serving the least of these is serving Jesus
• John 15:9–17 – Abide in Christ’s love by laying down your life for others
Whether you’re studying alone or with a group, this lesson will encourage and convict you to live out Jesus’ command to love our neighbor the same radical way He loved us.
